About The Event

This is your invitation to spend six weeks working with one such story and in doing so embark on a wild adventure with the intention of meeting some of these helpers and exploring our relationship with them, the medicine they carry and the trouble they bring.

'Next Step' Work

Healing is a journey of increments. In this 'next step' work, when we gather you will be asked to come with a particular trouble you are experiencing framed into a question "What is my best next step in regards to..." We will ask for assistance from the Helpers. A next step may be taken during the session or you may go away with a task, a new understanding, a point for deeper exploration. These steps can come in the form of huge leaps, baby steps or even a step backwards to revisit or realign something.

This kind of story work is an interaction with the story, a prayer, a request, an invitation to the story to share some of its wisdom with it us as we in turn 'feed the story' by sharing the points of the story that move us.

Our deeper exploration with the Helpers will include writing or drawing, movement and sound.

The first time I heard this story I felt a calling deep in my bones to journey more deeply into this story. My 'point' was right at the beginning of the story, and was indeed the beginning point of the next step of my work with stories.  The aim of this series is to be an introduction of sorts as to truly delve deeply into something so richly detailed could be the work of lifetimes. Fortunately unlike our modern thinking, a story's medicine does not lie in our ability to understand the moral or the entire story, rather to get or feel the point that grabs us in the moment.

Facilitator

Rowena is a poet, storycarrier, tear-listener, survivor, and barefoot student of Giants, rivers, darkness, and healing.

She has battled shame, self blame, loss of voice and identity. Through redeeming her own experiences of violence, she embodies a deep empathy for the wounds many of us carry. She is a fierce and loving advocate for the intelligence of feelings, and balances this with an understanding of the importance of the practical, and everyday world.
